Billie Piper Joins Jenna Ortega in Star-Studded Wednesday Season 2

Netflix has released an official first look at Billie Piper in the new role that will see her join Wednesday for the series second season. The 42-year-old actress will join the ever-growing cast of the gothic comedy to play the mysterious and intelligent character of Isadora Capri.

One of the leading candidates to play the daughter of Frankenstein and the series Wednesday’s new girl, Piper, is no stranger to gothic horror. The British actress is best known for her role as Brona Croft/The Bride of Frankenstein in Penny Dreadful. Isadora Capri is the genius head of music at Nevermore Academy. Described as a former child prodigy, Isadora Capri shows a keen interest in Wednesdays musical ability, but is also the mentor of werewolf student Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Myers, who will also be back for Season 2.

Netflix shared the first look photos of Billie Piper as Isadora Capri on Wednesday, new scenes with the news surrounding the future of the record-breaking show. After originally launching on Netflix in November 2022, the first season of Wednesday quickly became a global phenomenon. With 252 million viewers worldwide, the series became Netflixs biggest English-language show of all time. In January 2023, the show was renewed for a second season, which is now confirmed to be hitting screens in August this year.

Wednesday is a dark spin on the Addams Family world and follows 22-year-old Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy, a school for other supernatural misfits. Wednesday, who is played by Jenna Ortega, began life as an adult Wednesday, but the script was rewritten to follow the younger character. Horror, comedy, and teen drama all come together to form the show that became a critical hit with Emmy nominations and an army of fans.

Wednesday Season 3 News, Plus Spin-Off Series on the Way

Netflix didnt stop there with the Wednesday new season news, however, as they confirmed that the second season is just the start. As well as the news that Billie Piper is joining the cast for Season 2, the show was officially renewed for a third season, too. The Hollywood Reporter also reported that a spin-off series is in early talks. Its something were noodling; there are other characters we can look at, co-creator Alfred Gough teased.

Fans on social media were quick to celebrate the news. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams on the series, was among the first to confirm the renewal with an Instagram post of her own: When Wednesday comes, a better day. Wednesday season three. Its official we shall return. Fans commented on the post with messages such as, And for many more seasons, and I cant wait to see the second season, Im waiting for it with great curiosity and the third is already official, fantastic news!

One fan commented on the length of time it will take for filming to start on the third season. Wednesday Season 2 was announced back in January of 2023, but season 1 had only launched the year before. Fans are hopeful that the wait wont be as long this time around, with one viewer saying, Ill be gripping the sheets in agony waiting, but please dont let us wait three years again.

Burton, 66, who directed some of the most acclaimed episodes from the first season, including Cry Witch and Homeroomicide, returns as an executive producer and occasional director. Burton has been busy this year with Ortega, as he also directed the upcoming sequel to his 1988 cult classic Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The new cast members are just the latest additions to an increasingly star-studded ensemble for Wednesday. Billie Piper will be among the likes of Lady Gaga, Steve Buscemi, Joanna Lumley, and Thandie Newton in the new season. Elsewhere, returning cast members include Gwendoline Christie, who plays headteacher Larissa Weems, and Luis Guzmn, who is back as Wednesdays father, Gomez Addams.

In other behind-the-scenes updates for the series, Ortega herself is stepping into a more active role behind the camera. The actress came under fire over a podcast interview in which she revealed she was regularly changing lines on set and had to put her foot down over some inconsistencies. Burton himself defended Ortega in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, claiming her comments had been misinterpreted. Gough also added to the reports, claiming that Ortegas promotion to producer made perfect sense, as she was regularly giving feedback on scripts and already felt like a producer.

Joanna Lumley was full of praise about working in the shows universe: Theres always something thrilling about working for Tim Burton. His whole mind takes him to a different world, and the world that theyve created here for Wednesday and Nevermore and the family is just intoxicating.

The Wednesday universe looks to only be growing. Wednesday Season 3 is confirmed, with the potential of a spin-off series on the way as well. As fans continue to count down to August, they will have to be patient to see what is next in the macabre and mysterious world of Nevermore Academy.
