Trump Considers Pardon for Former Friend Diddy

Trump could be involved in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ conviction. In a new interview that was posted on Aug. 1, former President Donald Trump was asked about a possible pardon for hip-hop icon Combs by host Finnerty on Newsmax’s Finnerty on Friday.

A month ago, Combs was found guilty on one federal offense but was acquitted on all of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges. His Bad Boy Records founder, Combs’ trials started on July 23, when the prosecution presented its case against him. In a trial that lasted more than seven weeks and included witness testimony and a counterclaim by singer Cassie Ventura against Combs, who was accused of abuse and trafficking in their former relationship, the former President was charged. Combs has consistently stated that he is not guilty of any of the allegations.

Trump appeared to give an ambiguous answer when Finnerty posed the question about whether or not to pardon Combs. Trump stated, “Well, he was sort of half-innocent, you know, but he was certainly celebrating a victory.” “But I guess it wasn’t as good a victory.”

Combs remains incarcerated as he awaits sentencing, which is set for October. 3. Combs will serve up to 20 years for transportation with the intent to engage in prostitution, the charge on which he was convicted last month.

Trump later stated that he used to be very good friends with Combs, but something happened. “We were friendly,” Trump said. “We got along well.”

“I can tell you that when I got into politics, it wasn’t the same,” the former president continued, “but that’s OK.”

Trump told Finnerty that he would examine the case, but didn’t say whether or not he would do so. “I’d certainly look at the facts,” he said. “If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me.”

The former president has given other indications that he might consider pardoning Combs. In May, when asked about the possibility of the same thing, Trump said essentially the same thing. When he was in the Oval Office, he answered Fox News reporter Peter Doocy’s question that was similar to the one he had given a few months prior.

“He’s a very good friend of mine, and I think I would look at it,” he had stated. “I haven’t spoken to him in many years, but I will certainly look at it. I will look at the facts. It won’t have any impact.”

Trump was quick to mention his plans to look into the situation. He made it clear that he did not want his decision to be influenced by personal feelings. Combs could have been one of the hip-hop greats to receive a pardon. Trump is also the only president in US history to have granted clemency to a former music mogul, Michael Todd of Death Row Records.

“You know, when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up. … I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me,” Trump said at the time.

“So far, the former President’s public commentary has been consistent,” said a person familiar with the matter.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Legal Battles

The verdict from Combs’ trial was delivered a month before Trump made his remarks. The multimillionaire was charged with six crimes, one of which was that he would be exonerated from, but was convicted on the more serious charges. He was acquitted on seven of the nine charges against him in a verdict that was given the previous month. The case against him, which was launched last month, is still ongoing.

For a variety of reasons, including allegations of rape, trafficking, and blackmail, the Combs case has gained a significant amount of notoriety and public awareness. Because of their long and intense relationship with Combs, his celebrity has added additional layers to the case.

The source of the Combs’ most recent problems dates back to a year ago. In February 2022, the government began an investigation that eventually became the case against him. He and six others were charged with racketeering and sex trafficking. There were nine counts in total. In addition to claiming that she had been trafficked, Ventura also said that Combs physically and sexually abused her.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Future Sentencing and Legal Battles

One of the charges Combs was convicted of was transporting with the intent to engage in prostitution. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison on that charge. Combs’ official sentencing will take place on October 3. He has up to 20 years on the remaining charge.

The outcome of the Combs matter is still up in the air, and if he is given any leniency, it is still to be seen. In the interim, Combs will remain in custody and will continue to be a high-profile figure. Combs will also continue to be surrounded by the ongoing controversies and investigations.

A portion of Trump’s full answer, which was taken from the Finnerty interview on Newsmax, has been published on X (formerly Twitter). “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: I’d Look at the Facts, Trump Says on Newsmax,” read the account’s caption.

Fans, political experts, and others are weighing in on the subject. As for whether or not Trump will pardon Combs in the end, we will have to wait and see. As of now, all eyes are on October when Combs will be sentenced. Until then, the question of whether or not Trump will intervene will remain.
