Massport Expands Remote Airport Terminal Program to Braintree

On October 13, 2026, Massport officially broke ground on a new remote airport terminal in Braintree, building on the positive response to its initial remote facility in Framingham. The move is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the travel experience to and from Logan Airport, according to a statement from Massport.

Background: Success of the Framingham Remote Terminal

The remote terminal concept was first introduced with the Framingham location, which opened on June 1, 2026. Massport reported that in the first two months of operation, the Framingham remote terminal served 10,000 passengers. Due to this success, the pilot program has been extended through March 2027.

Details of the New South Shore Terminal

The new Braintree terminal will be constructed at the existing Braintree Logan Express (LEX) facility on Forbes Road, directly across from South Shore Plaza. Project plans also call for the addition of two multilevel parking garages, providing expanded parking options for travelers using the remote facility.

This initiative is designed to support passenger convenience and reduce traffic congestion on roadways leading into Boston. A Massport statement noted that the program not only reduces travel-related stress but also helps lower emissions by cutting down on private vehicle use.

How the Remote Airport Terminal Service Works

Passengers using the remote terminal can complete TSA security screening before boarding a shuttle bus that transports them directly onto the secure side of Logan Airport. This process is intended to allow travelers to bypass the checkpoints at the main Logan airport terminal, offering added efficiency and convenience.

The remote airport terminal service is currently available for passengers flying with JetBlue or Delta Air Lines, running between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. The cost for the one-way service is $9 per passenger.

Industry Response and Broader Interest

Massport CEO Rich Davey expressed enthusiasm about the growing popularity of the remote terminal model. “We couldn’t be happier with the success of the Remote Terminal over the last two months,” Davey stated in July. He highlighted the convenience for passengers and the reduced need to drive into Boston as key factors behind the program's success.

The innovative approach has attracted interest from other major airport authorities, with representatives from airports in Philadelphia and Washington visiting the Framingham location to observe the remote check-in service firsthand, according to The Boston Globe.

Looking Ahead: Goals for Travel Efficiency and Sustainability

Massport has positioned this expansion as a significant step forward in its efforts to streamline airport access and improve logistics and transportation for travelers. "This project marks an exciting milestone in Massport’s efforts to make getting to and from the airport easier and more seamless for travelers," the agency said in its official statement.

As the Braintree terminal takes shape, Massport's remote check-in service continues to evolve in response to passenger needs, focusing on reducing airport congestion, enhancing security screening convenience, and supporting sustainable transportation for the region.
